I spend a lot of time on the internet. And I see a lot of things. And it genuinely upsets me so much that so many of these things I see are based around negativity. Seriously, who needs that?
No one.
So I’m going to argue this from a fashion perspective. WHO CARES WHAT SOMEONE ELSE IS WEARING. Who. The. Fuck. Cares. If someone walks out of their house in the morning, grabs a coffee, makes their way to work, and feels hot as shit in what they’re wearing – at what point does someone else gain the divine right to throw it back in their face?
Enough with the ‘Basic Bitch’ label. If that girl feels a million bucks in her striped Bassike shirt (who cares if she matches her friends), then she’s already one step ahead of the girls who try to tear her down.
And if someone else bought their vintage velvet shirt and dungarees from Paper Bag Princess, and they again feel a million bucks – that still gives you no right to judge.
A significant amount of fashion ‘journalism’ these days is purely written to tear styles and people to shreds. Salient, I’m calling you out here. Seriously, what are you thinking??? Yes, the fashion industry is hugely based upon critique in itself – but why are we not sitting here praising the good pieces, as opposed to tearing down the aspects we don’t like. Is it too much to admire someone’s confidence, and that they’re totally content in what they left the house wearing?
It’s something to consider.
Write pieces that praise, inspire and entertain people. Discuss fashion as an art form; the textures, the colours, the shapes. Appreciate how much confidence it takes for someone to feel genuinely good about themselves.
Channel your inner Gigi, be positive. And I’ll be back with some lovely words soon.
Beautiful and inspirational!!!
